Manifesto against uranium mining in Extremadura

signing this document, Extremadura citizens and friends of people around the world Extremadura, we went to the public to express our deep concern and outrage at the decision of the Junta de Extremadura authorizing multinational companies Berkeley Resources Ltd. Mawson Resources Ltd. and implementation of a broad campaign of mine in various uranium deposits scattered throughout the region.

Extremadura is one of the richest regions of biodiversity and best preserved of Europe, and its economy retains a strong agricultural base. The pretension of converting the region into a supplier of uranium on a large scale aggression is intolerable to the survival of their natural environment and the health of its population (already severely threatened by a series of projects of significant environmental impact: License Renewal Almaraz nuclear power plant, oil refinery in Tierra de Barros, power plants in the region of Merida, etc.) as well as nurture the growth of civil nuclear industry and international military.

Therefore, we join the public demand that the Junta de Extremadura immediately cancel all current prospecting operations or tendered, and thereupon arbitrator appropriate legal mechanisms to prevent sharp and definite way all uranium mining activity in the region of Extremadura, in the context of a comprehensive environmental policy that preserves the environmental and landscape values \u200b\u200bspecific to the region, both to enhance its already important role as a net contributor in the fight global defense of this small, fragile and beautiful planet that everyone we stand.

Participation in Earth Day in Mérida (25 April) and concentration in Don Benito (April 26)

On Saturday April 25, citizens of Vegas Altas and Serena took the progress of Earth Day in Extremadura , held in Merida, his appeal against uranium holdings in the region. Sunday morning in twenty citizens of Don Benito, Villanueva de La Serena, La Haba and other towns in the area attended a concentration in the Plaza of Spain in Don Benito , convened a citizens' initiative supported by the United Left and the Greens of Extremadura, under the theme "The public should be informed about the nuclear mining project in The Bean", during which numerous dombenitenses approached to request information and sign the letter addressed to the mayors. The regional coordinator of IU Pedro Escobar was also present at the event, reiterating the support of his organization to this claim. During the event, Mayor Don Benito, Mariano Gallego, People's Party, came personally to inquire about the reason for the merger and will forward its interest in the matter.

This week will be delivered in the municipalities of Havana, Don Benito Villanueva de La Serena letters their respective mayors, backed by more than a hundred signatures collected in recent days. On the one hand, we are compiling all existing data on the previous period of operation of these uranium deposits (epidemiological studies and environmental impact statements and family workers ...). On the other, is leading the project documentation available on the website of the licensee company, the Canadian Mawson Resources Ltd., and are monitoring the activities of mining companies worldwide locations.
